The Latest at Homepage Startup

It’s been just over a month since Homepage Startup (HS) was launched so I’ve decided to make a blog post regarding the latest on HS.

If you’re not yet aware of what HS is; it is an easy-to-set website that allows you to save up to twelve (or more) websites for quick access. Once you’ve set your websites, you simply set HS as your start-up page. Then, whenever you need to visit your saved websites, you just open your browser and voilá. HS has additional features included such as Tabs to categorize your bookmarks and the ability to share your homepage with friends and family.

Since the launch date, Homepage Startup has managed to gather a little over 2,000 regular members. An estimated 1,000 continue using Homepage Startup without membership. A total of 20,125 websites have been saved over 367 different tabs. I have taken the liberty to generate graphs for our fellow readers to view. The first graph is for the top ten saved websites while the second displays top ten tab names.

YouTube is resting at most popular then MySpace, FaceBook, Gmail, Google, Yahoo, Hotmail, and eBay followed by Digg who holds the ninth position leaving Yahoo! Mail has tenth popular. According to the most popular tab name, I believe Digg should be most popular as News tab is very frequent :).

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the users once again for using Homepage Startup. Another thing I would like to say is that I have received a number of messages asking how do I profit from this website and the answer is I don’t. I can’t think of any ways to make revenue off a website like this other than charging users which I don’t intend to do. Maybe I’ll start a donation page or something ;).

Here are the graphs:

I’ve been using HS for around a month now (Found it by StumbleUpon). I’ve found it very useful, and easier to navigate than Firefox bookmarks..

As for profit, maybe add an option in the profile to allow advertisements on their page (Making the users feel like they still have more control over their profile). I’m sure many users would put up advertisements to help support HS.

For revenue, set up referral accounts with every shopping site known to mankind on the net, since every time a user clicks on a link they would be shown as coming from your site. It might be a trickle more than a downpour, but every bit helps right! I hear places such as Apple pay pretty good, and they’re likely to be on peoples pages.

Congratulations for this fantastic site. It looks much better than the common browser bookmarks and you can acess it everywhere:)

I just have a small problem.
I added a couple of sites and many of them don´t have a preview picture.
A message appears saying: Preview Unavaliable. Waiting capture.

    How can i fix this?

Glad to know I’m not alone. I use a lot of my tabs for work related stuff, and now I’m kicking myself for not double checking to make sure my bookmarks matched my tabs.

Hi.. for some reason I am unable to change any of the websites on my homepage start up. I’m on my computer at work so I wasn’t sure if maybe that had something to do with it but I use it as my homepage on my laptop and I’ve never had problems. I’ve even tried to click on login and register and it just doesn’t move from the page of empty slots… does anyone have any suggestions or know why this might be happening?

  13. 13 Manny 11 June 2008 @ 9:33 pm

Same here, Kristi. I can neither log in nor register…Homepage Startup is my home page and ALL my important sites are there. Until this is fixed, I’m so screwed!!!!!

  14. 14 youvebeenwaxed 12 June 2008 @ 9:34 am

Has anyone heard anything from the developer yet? I use this site daily and I’m really starting to miss it. Ideas anyone?

  15. 15 Kristi 12 June 2008 @ 1:13 pm

No I have no idea and it’s really annoying and inconvenient because I want to use this site on my homepage at work because I am constantly bouncing around to different sites yet the feedback portion of this site is broken too so there is no way to inform them that a problem exists.

  16. 16 DeadNightSky 12 June 2008 @ 3:58 pm

I’m having trouble too. Can’t delete websites, move boxes, add websites, change tabs, add tabs, customize, log in or out, or send feedback. This website is so useful and I’d like to get these features back cause I’ve been using it for a while now and don’t want to go back to typing everything lol.

Well, it’s been a week now and no fix is forthcoming and nothing has been posted to update us. Does anyone know of a site with similar functions? I’m already using Opera’s speed dial but it only has 1 page and I could really use more than one. Anyone?

  18. 18 johng333 14 June 2008 @ 7:22 pm

I can’t login, on browers that have my cookie saved with login, I can’t get to any other tabs.

I have about 10 tabs and each tab has about 15 sites. Since I love this tool so much, I did not save those links elsewhere.

I’m screwed - #1 I love this tool, Firefox and Opera have similar tools, but this one is not browser dependant so I can pull it up on any computer. #2 I may have lost several dozens links that will take a week to rebuild #3 I am hooked and now NEED this tool

When it comes back, I think a great feature would be the ability to download all the linked sites on your page (and all tabs) to a simple HTML list or even a text list so you can have a back up.

Please come back Homepage Startup - we miss you and love you.

  19. 19 qtarantino 15 June 2008 @ 3:18 pm

    Please! Come Back!!!!

  20. 20 DeadNightSky 15 June 2008 @ 10:06 pm

I think it’s fixed now, mine seems to be working again :D

  21. 21 Manny 17 June 2008 @ 8:46 am

Whew! I was beginning to show signs of withdrawal. Thanks to those who brought our invaluable tool back to us! Nicely done.

Very nice website I have it seen on some tv show.

    Improvements needed:
    -auto assign
-list of people with the most links
    -rating users in stars 1-5

    Hi:
I have become seriously dependent on the HomepageStartup site. As you will notice, I have a few of my most used pages - but I have a lot more.
I would like to know what your future plans are - are you planning a paid service and/or your plans to monetize so that you can continue support.
Some suggestions - team up with other service providers to provide some free services - but also value added paid services that you can get a piece of.
Some of us may have some apps that we can monetize through your site.
I will be happy to discuss more on this..

Good job …although I have some suggestions for improvement - which can wait!

    Regards

    Norman
