Homepage Startup Launched
Hi & Welcome to Homepage Startup’s (HS) New Blog
You may have already saw HS’s website but if you haven’t then let me give you a quick introduction before you shoot off to see it. The website consists of a search box at the top of the page followed by twelve square boxes. Each boxes can be assigned a unique website which will be saved for you to view later. The idea is to set HS as your default browser page so next time you open your browser, the regular visited websites will be right there for easy access.
I’ve added a number of features already and thanks to the quick growth of the website, I’ve had many feature requests by fellow HS members :). I hope to expand this new idea into something large and as for my considerate visitors, we shall do it together ;).
The website was launched on 17th August 2007. I’ve opened this blog just two days after. I’ll be posting updates about HS on this blog so remember to keep yourself updated. That is it for now — remember to comment on my blog posts and to submit your ideas wherever possible.
Thank You.

I just want the ability to have more than 12 widgets on the page. I think they should allow the user, when they set up their homepage, to add as many as they want. I could easily use 30, and if someone only wants 5, that’s their prerogative too.

For those thinking “Wow, great idea…” this is a feature called SpeedDial in the Opera browser.
If you prefer Firefox to Opera, there is an extension that does this with custom number of ‘boxes’ and loads of other settings.
If you are using IE then I’m sure you have some kind of excuse.

This is indeed simply a copy of what the Opera browser offers by default, except for the fact that in Firefox the extension that copies it is very bulky and slow which made it pretty annoying to have.
This is the perfect solution for me in Firefox :]

It seems Opera has a similar feature on their browser. Too bad the browser isn’t too good :\. This rocks!

It’s a great idea - I love it, been looking for something like this for a long time.
However I would like the ability to just drag the link from another window into a box. Also some sort of styling/interface would be nice - Something smart etc. Let me know!
Great Work!

I’ve noticed I lose websites I have saved once I registered and set up the maximum 25 websites and press refresh. Also, I would love more than 25 websites. The only feature I hate about firefox is not having the ability to have a multi-wide bookmarks section. This is why your homepage start appeals to me. Please consider modifying your code to allow for 5 saved websites wide and as many as 20 rows deep.

To allow more sites - probably best to add a line of Catagories under the Search box - Finance, News, Tech, etc.

Come on this is nothing new!!!! Opera has that feature by default. It’s called “Speed Dial”.

Love your site and love the concept. Thanks for your efforts. Question though- How does “awaiting capture” work? For instance, Amazon was one of the first sites I bookmarked quite some time back and it still has this message showing rather than Amazon’s homepage. Thanks again for setting up this site.
