Some More Features

I’m just posting a quick update on Homepage Startup. A couple of features have been added since my last blog post.

The first new feature is definitely the second most requested after accounts. It is the ability to set more than twelve square boxes. I’ve added this settings on “Customize” after you have created an account and logged in. You will get an option to set the number of rows/columns you want — the maximum you can have is twenty-five boxes.

The second feature was something that popped in my head as I asked a friend of mine what website he has set on Homepage Startup; I thought ‘why not give an extra page to each user displaying their homepage in a read-only environment’ (I’m sure somebody suggested this :) ). This way, rather than my friend telling me what websites he has, he can easily give me his personal read-only homepage which will save much more time.

If you’re after this feature, here’s how to get it. You need to create an account first (Just click “Register” at the top of the page), then you will have your own personal page set automatically for you:

http://<your-username>.homepagestartup.com

This page is solely for your Homepage only, so share it all you want. If you want this page removed, this go through “Customize” after you’ve logged in and choose “Set My Homepage Private”.

More features to come soon … ;)

alfred: I suppose Opera & Firefox copied IE on Internet browsers? If one website has a feature similar to another website, it doesn’t necessarily mean it was stolen. Two different people can think of a similar idea. Stop hating on this site, and .. grow up!

Awesome! love the site. The layout doesn’t seem to stay when using the username.homepagestartup.com link though.

It is a pretty neat idea.

Nice simple idea. Need more background colors. More layout options.

I’m also seeing a lot of “Preview Not Available”. What’s with that?

Moving the boxes is a waste of time. Doesn’t achieve anything useful. Take it out or make it work properly.

Simple idea but I like it.
Don’t fall into the trap of trying too put to much on the page.

it’ll be great if we can create multiple subdomain for different purpose. example, mypersonal.homepagestartup.com and mybiz.homepagestartup.com etc…

I don’t care who copied what…a functionality of a browser was re-invented for a custom usage. Many individuals I train on a daily basis have difficulty recognizing the icon/shortcuts on the desktop in the training lab. The Homepage makes it easy to find the link(s) they need for training. It also makes it easy when you move from one PC to another; you only have to remember this URL because the rest are linked on your homepage!

    Bravo et Merci!

The ability to set more than twelve square boxes (for instance by selecting 5 columns) does turn out into a mess .. as the boxes don’t remain at the place where you put them. The concept is great, it’s now time to get it all working more smoothly. Can’t you sell the idea to Mozilla?

having the boxes stick to a grid would be a nice third customizing option
