A New Design?

Judging by the positive growth of Homepage Startup, I believe it’s about time to get a change of design. I’m generally a programmer so my designing skills are pretty awful; you can call the current design of Homepage Startup my best effort :P. This being the case, I decided to give the big boys a call — who is my good friend Aky (a-key). Aky can be described as another one of those web designers; flash/photoshop/mspaint etc junkie.

Aky gave Homepage Startup a shot and produced a layout for it. You can view his design at:

I haven’t put this design up on the main page yet. I would like feedback from you guys before I go ahead and make it public. Let me know your views on this design, negative feedbacks are welcome (Aky wouldn’t be offended by it). I can make changes to the design however you like.

I hope to make this design as one of the *themes*, and hopefully to get more themes in the future. If you would like to submit your own theme/design then go ahead and email it to (info [AT] homepagestartup.com). Credits will be given ;).

Nice, i like it. Will it still work with changing background color?

The deep Blue is gloomy - better to keep the original design but make the typography of the title visually stronger.

Great Design, loving it, but it does seem a bit plain. Would love to see more other themes coming in!

I love it…Maybe with the new design you could make the boxes a tad smaller…So more can fit on one page…My gf is married and her hubby cant see her saved favorites that we use together online…She just types in her url and voila! lol

PLEASE impliment the new design right away!!!!
Really nice looking, yet keeps it simple.
I appreciate the site a great deal, especially the fact that there are no blinking ads, etc. My new start page!!

I like it, but you should change the css on the links. I don’t like the plain blue ugly links.

Love the new design…how about a page of links to other users’ startup pages, with their permission of course…I found one other user buy trial and error and he’s got some great links

I love the site and the added color on the proposed site looks nice.

I’d describe your site as basically an elegant way to give visual access to a customizable set/s of often-used favourites. For that reason I agree with the others that say that the overall design should be kept simple. Having said that, I like the ‘new look’ and hope you’ll adopt it soon (and, yes, for those who are never satisfied/like to tweak maybe include a range of simple themes!).
